KCR Shocks Journalist unions

The Indian Journalists Union (IJU) and the AP Union of Working Journalists (APUWJ) have expressed shock at the call given by Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrasekhar Rao to journalists from Telangana to quit APUWJ and form their union for which he would contribute Rs. 10 lakh.

In a statement here, the IJU secretary general K. Srinivas Reddy and APUWJ president D. Somasundar said they had never imagined that a leader like Mr. Rao who has led a long drawn struggle for separate Telangana would make such a statement as it did not behove his stature.

They said they left it to the good sense of Mr. Rao to consider his statement in the light of five decades of interrupted service by APUWJ to the newspaper industry and welfare of journalists.

They also asked Mr. Rao to take note that the survival of professional organisations as APUWJ depended on their service to members and not donations by leaders. The APUWJ would continue to serve the media community even in the future, they added.
