Yuvraj dropped for disciplinary reasons?

Yuvraj Singh has been dropped from the squad for the Asia Cup in Sri Lanka, and from what sources in the Board have indicated to us, it is quite clear that Yuvraj is not just paying the price for his poor form of late, but also for his lack of discipline and fitness.

Yuvraj was clicked dancing on the eve of the selection meeting for the Asia Cup and, the picture shows best show how bad his timing has been lately.

So is Yuvi just unapologetic about living life in the fast lane or do cricket administrators have a serious point? They believe that the one time ODI vice captain of the team has lost all focus.

Not to mention form, Yuvi has no half-century in 14 IPL games and 5 T20 games but he's been dropped far more for disciplinary reasons.

"This is the best possible side...I'm not going to speak about any individual player," Srikkanth, Chairman of Selection Committee, said.

"A lot of stress was given on the fitness of a player. Fitness and fielding are very important. We have gone through the record of last one year and did a detailed analysis. It was a lovely discussion with the captain. This is the best possible squad and I think the captain is also convinced," Srikkanth added.

India has dropped to 3rd in the ODI rankings after the early exit of the 2nd string team from the tri series in Harare. That coupled with the disaster in the T20 world cup has put the selectors under considerable pressure.

The selectors though have resisted the urge to make wholesale changes. Saurabh Tiwary best known to be a Dhoni lookalike in more ways than one gets his first call up. Tiwary was a find for Mumbai Indians during the IPL.

Tiwary's Mumabi Captain Sachin Tendulkar has however opted out of the Asia cup, saying he would like to spend some time with his family before a very hectic cricket season.

By dropping Yuvraj Singh from the Asia Cup team, the selectors have sent a very strong message to the youngsters - mend your ways or be prepared to sit out. Perhaps this will give Yuvraj some time for introspection and to get his act together for the upcoming series and most importantly for 2011 World Cup.
